Document Design #1 — PSA Flyer

Assignment 1.jpg
Edited Form (PDF)

The first document design was a PSA flyer. The concept of this assignment was to follow all of the document design rules. I focused my flyer on rhetoric and the message. I chose the photo for this flyer because I thought it would appeal to the viewer's emotions. I created this flyer using Canva which I found was very easy to navigate! One correction that was given to me from my professor was not to center the text, when I went back and edited the document in Adobe Acrobat, I moved all of the text, so it aligned on the left of the page, this makes the flyer look even more appealing!

Document Design #2 — Design Theory Multi-Page Document

The second document design was a multi-page document which was meant to describe the 13 layout sins to a potential audience. I chose to design a brochure for the Radford University Harvey Knowledge Center, which specializes in Academic Coaching. This brochure could potentially be handed out to students at the center or even given to Coaches so that they could assist fellow students.

Document Design #3 — Form Revision

For the third document design, students were required to revise and edit the Southeast Kansas Community Action Program’s (SEK-CAP) Basic Intake Form (BIF) and its code sheet to make them more usable for their clients. I have displayed the original form vs. the edited form that I created. Editing this document not only made it easier to understand and read for the people who would be using it, but it also gave the document a nicer look and was way more simplistic than trying to type all of the information into an excel sheet.

Digital Design Project

The fourth assignment required students to select a website that they felt needed redesigning and editing to make it more appealing to the viewer and to gain more interest and interaction. For my redesign, I chose to re-do the UPS website. I chose this website because originally the website was a little bland. The usability of the website was also tricky for viewers. I decided to revamp the website by adding more colors, pictures, and tried to focus on areas that viewers would be most interested in such as shipping, FAQ, and "find my package." The new website is very easy to navigate while also being aesthetically pleasing.

The final document design required students to develop a digital writing campaign. The purpose of this project was to design a campaign that informs the public about an organizations mission. The campaign is meant to persuade the audience to join, donate, volunteer, visit, etc. the organization. I chose to focus on the Radford University Harvey Knowledge Center for my project. I created an advertisement-like video that is meant to inform viewers about what the center is and what it offers as well as five Twitter tweets, two Facebook posts, one Instagram post, an infographic, and a blog post that all focused on the center.
